There are reports of a serious Toronto car accident that occurred on October 24, 2021 in the area of Bartor Road and Clayson Road in Toronto. This Toronto car accident occurred at approximately 8:19 pm, and resulted in serious injuries.
According to early reports, a 32 year old man was driving a Nissan Altima southbound at a high rate of speed, and rear-ended a Nisan Maxima. The Nissan Maxima was stopped in the southbound lane when it was hit from behind. Unfortunately, the driver of the Maxima, a 49 year old man was seriously injured in this crash, and was transported to hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver that caused this accident then fled the scene on foot, before being found and arrested by officers. The driver, Anthony Brown, has been charged. We wish the man injured in this Toronto car accident a speedy and complete recovery from his injuries. This man was doing nothing wrong, and was the unfortunate victim of a dangerous driver. When people are needlessly injured in Toronto car accidents, the impact can be life changing for them and their families. Serious injuries from car accidents can result in lost income, as well as medical and rehabilitation expenses. This is in addition to all of the pain and suffering and emotional losses experienced by the victim and their family. Although there may be prosecution for the offense, the victim and their family may also need to consider a civil remedy. This is a separate claim that does not assign any criminal responsibility on the at-fault party, but instead seeks compensation for the losses and damages suffered. A civil claim for a car accident, would allow the victims to recover money to help restore some of the losses and cover future losses. Most often, these claims are covered by insurance. In Ontario car accident injury cases, the injured party may have the right to access insurance coverage from their own automobile insurance police and that of the at-fault party. These claims are known as accident benefits and tort claims. I'm Andrew Iacobelli, a Toronto Car Accident lawyer. During the early morning hours of Sunday, March 19, 2017, a high-speed accident involving two vehicles took place on York Mills Road east of Hedgewood Road in Toronto. What Happened? Officers from Toronto Police Service responded to a call for a personal injury collision on York Mills Road at approximately 2:55 a.m. on Sunday. When officers arrived on the scene they determined that a 2016 Mercedes-Benz heading eastbound on York Mills Road left the roadway, struck a utility pole on the south side, and then returned to the roadway and collided with an eastbound 2014 Toyota taxi cab. Given the volume of traffic on Ontario roadways, particularly in Toronto and the GTA, it is not surprising that rear-end car crashes account for a significant number of Ontario car accidents. Many Toronto and Ontario rear-end car accidents are the result of vehicles travelling to fast or following too closely. The increasing reliance on cell phones is often also a cause of serious rear-end car crashes, due to distracted driving. Thankfully, many Ontario rear end car accidents occur at low speeds. Many rear-end accidents result is minor injuries only. Nonetheless, even at moderate speeds there is the potential for serious injuries following a rear end collision in Toronto. In most rear-end car accidents, the driver that rear-ended the vehicle will be found to be at fault for causing the accident. Often, the police will issue a citation/ticket to the vehicle that caused the rear-end collision. Most rear end crashes can be avoided by leaving ample space ahead of your vehicle, and by driving at a speed appropriate for the conditions. It is important to drive slower and leave more room when the weather is poor. Drivers should never tail gate the vehicle ahead, as this can lead to a rear-end collision. Common Injuries From Rear End Car Accidents Rearend car accidents can result in many injuries for the occupants of the vehicle, including orthopaedic injuries, brain injuries, and soft tissue injuries. The most common injury that results is damage to the head and neck. "Whiplash" is a common name for injury to the cervical spine and discs. The brain is also susceptible to serious injury in a rear-end collision because of the sudden movements of forward and back. Ontario rear-end accidents can result in herniated discs in the neck or back, as well as concussive syndrome. Disc herniations following a rear end car crash can result in neck pain, numbness, and shooting pains down the arms. In the case of a severe spinal disc herniation, the treatment can include spine surgery. Toronto and Ontario auto accidents involving a left turning vehicle can result in catastrophic injuries and fatalities. Often, automobiles will be traveling at a high rate of speed when they collide with another automobile that suddenly turns left across their path. If you or a loved one is involved in an accident involving a left turning vehicle, it is important to seek the advice of experienced Toronto and Ontario car accident lawyer to assess your claim and help you to make informed decisions. Ontario automobile accidents involving left turns can be complex when it comes to advancing claims for insurance proceeds. Although you may be certain that the left turning vehicle caused the accident, these types of collisions are often vigorously defended on liability. Often, there will either be no witnesses or conflicting accounts as to how the collision occurred. The drivers of the respective automobiles involved may also have conflicting versions of the accident and sequence of events. In these circumstances, it may not be so easyto determine which party is at fault. Experienced Ontario car accident lawyers can assist with investigating the circumstances of the accident in order to prove fault and secure your ability to make a claim for your injuries. The Ontario Highway Traffic Act states that "No driver or operator of a vehicle in an intersection shall turn left across the path of a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction unless he or she has afforded a reasonable opportunity to the driver or operator of the approaching vehicle to avoid a collision." R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 141 (5). In other words, a driver is not allowed to turn left at an intersection if the automobile approaching from the opposite could end up colliding with your automobile. Significantly, IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT THE COLOR OF THE LIGHT IS AT THE TIME THE COLLSION OCCURS. It is not enough to simply wait for the light to turn red and then turn left. Even if an approaching vehicle runs a red light and collides with your car, you may still be liable. Before proceeding to make a left turn, take extra time to make sure that the approaching vehicles are completely stopping. While a ticket or potential liability in a civil claim is one reason to wait before turning left, the more important reason by far is that left turn collisions can have catastrophic consequences. Take care of yourself and others on the roadway by exercising caution whenever making a left turn. Don't worry about the cars behind you honking; satisfy yourself that the approaching traffic is either stopping or far enough away so that you can safely make your left turn. If you or a loved one has been injured in a left turn accident in Ontario, it is important to speak with a knowledgeable car accident lawyer to learn about your rights.
