At Iacobelli Personal Injury Law Firm we are saddened to learn of another fatal pedestrian accident in Toronto. This fatal pedestrian accident occurred on the early morning on Friday, November 27, 2015 at the intersection of Bathurst Street and Eglinton Avenue West in Toronto. The victim was a young woman, only 21 years of age. We offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
The collision remains under investigation by the Toronto Police. According to early reports, the pedestrian was crossing the street appropriately when she was struck by a tanker truck that was attempting to make a right turn.
To date, there has been an increase in the number of fatal pedestrian accidents in Toronto as compared to last year. There are usually more pedestrian accidents in the late fall and winter months due to the reduced daylight. There is also generally an increase in pedestrian accidents, when it is raining or overcast.
In urban areas like Toronto, motorists need to be extra cautious to avoid striking a pedestrian or cyclist. Nonetheless, we see too often that drivers are in a hurry and speed through urban and residential areas. I am always astonished when I see people speeding through urban areas or parking lots. These are places where their is an expectation of high pedestrian traffic, so care should be taken to drive slowly and cautiously.
