Canadians travel to Florida often for vacation and business. Unfortunately, accidents can happen at any time. If you or a family member has been seriously injured while traveling to Florida, you probably have many questions about your rights and remedies. Accidents involving Canadians in Florida can be complex in terms of coordinating insurance claims and benefits. Often, when a Canadian is injured in Florida, the claim will involve both US and Canadian insurance claims. In many cases, most of the available insurance will actually be from your Canadian insurance policy through statutory accident benefits and UIM (underinsured coverage). As such, it is important to make informed decisions so that you do not prejudice your rights to your Canadian insurance benefits. Although lawyers in Florida may have expertise with regard to the Florida portion of your claim, it is unlikely that they will have knowledge about the insurance process in Ontario Canada.
