Truck Accidents in Ontario
Now that summer has arrived in Ontario, it is construction season and that means dump trucks and other construction-related vehicles on Ontario roads. Often, we observe full loaded dump trucks, sometimes with tandem trailers, speeding through congested and residential communities. While there are many safe operators, unfortunately some drivers and operators are more concerned with profits than safety.
Given the relatively short construction season in Ontario, there is a motivation to earn as much as possible during the limited season and, that means, as many deliveries as possible in a given date. There is an economic incentive to drive fast.
While speed is dangerous for all motor vehicles, it is particularly dangerous when a large commercial vehicle, like a dump truck, speeds. These vehicles take longer to stop, and are not as maneuverable. When a dump truck is involved in a crash, the consequences are often catastrophic for the occupants of the other vehicle.
Some are of the view that large trucks should be forced to adhere to slower speed limits than other vehicles on the road. For example, if cars are allowed to go 50 km/hour on city roads, then dump trucks and other large commercial vehicles, should be travelling 35 or 40 km/h. Maybe police should also be more aggressive in enforcing speed limits on large commercial vehicles, particularly since dump trucks are very often in residential areas.
If you or a loved on has been injured due to a crash with a commercial vehicle or dump truck in Ontario, it is important to have an experienced truck accident lawyer on your side.
