Car Hits Pedestrian Pushing Stroller - Toronto Car Accident

There are reports of a Scarborough car accident that resulted in a pedestrian being struck by one of the involved vehicles. According to reports, a two-vehicle crash in Scarborough resulted in a vehicle going onto the sidewalk and striking a woman who was pushing a stroller. This Scarborough car and pedestrian accident occurred at Brimley Road and St. Clair on the morning of September 26, 2012.

Reports indicate that the child was not injured. The woman was transported to hospital with leg injuries.

Driver Charged Following Fatal Motorcycle Accident at Highway 400 Ramp and Major Mackenzie in Vaughan, Ontario

A Richmond Hill man was killed in a motorcycle accident on September 12, 2012 on the Highway 400 off-ramp and Major Mackenzie Drive in Vaughan. The York Regional Police have charged the driver of the other vehicle involved.

This fatal motorcycle accident occurred on the evening of Wednesday September 12, 2012 at Major Mackenzie Drive and Highway 400 in the City of Vaughan.  According to reports, a 45 year old man from Richmond Hill, Ontario was killed in a collision with a truck. The York Regional Police were investigating the circumstances of this fatal motorcycle accident, and have recently announced that charged have been laid agains the driver of the truck.

The driver of the truck, a 30 year old man from Etobicoke has been reportedly charged with Impaired Driving causing Death and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle causing Death.   Although charges have been laid, police are still requesting anyone with information is asked to contact the Collision Investigation Unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7704, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-tips.

But when a minor or routine procedure results in serious injuries, such as paralysis, loss of limb, organ damage or death, it is clear that something went horribly wrong. In such cases, it is important to determine whether the medical providers, such as doctors or nurses, missed or ignored warning signs, or failed to order the appropriate tests.

Do not expect the medical providers to identify that medical malpractice has occurred or that it is even suspected. Most people will not be told that the serious injury or death was the result of medical malpractice. Instead, health care providers may only advise that the patient had a rare complication. Injuries involving infants and children are among the most tragic of Ontario personal injury and medical malpractice cases. The labor and delivery of a child is supposed to be a joyous occasion. During this time, however, emergency situations may arise that can threaten the life and well-being of both mother and baby.

Hospitals, nurses and physicians are required to monitor, detect, and timely treat conditions that threaten the mother or child - both are patients. Many victims of birth injury caused by medical malpractice started out as normal pregnancies. Often it is not until some time after arrival at the hospital that the first signs of distress or health risk occurrs.

Birth injuries can result from a number of situations, including fetal distress, placenta previa, placental abruption and as a result of excessive traction and pulling of the baby during delivery.

Signs of fetal distress are supposed to be monitored and, where necessary, intervention is supposed to occur. This may include situations where the baby needs to be delivered quickly by cesarean section. If fetal distress is ignored or not timely detected, however, there are serious risks for injury. This situation could lead to a baby not getting sufficient oxygen and blood flow to their brain, which could cause cerebral palsy.

Birth injuries can also occurr when medical providers do not timely or appropriately respond to an obstetric emergency. Some examples of this include, placenta previa and placental abruption. These emergecy situations can lead to serious injury or death if not treated appropriately.

As with most medical malpractice situations, hospitals and physicians are not likely to advise you that the injury was the result of some medical mistake. Pressure sores (also referred to as bed sores, pressure ulcers or decubitus ulcers) may result in serious injury, and sometimes even death. Pressure sores are often associated with neglect, as there are two major factors that contribute to the development of a pressure ulcer. These factors are:
1.extended time in one position, causing pressure to be applied to bony parts of the body; and
2. extended time when moisture or human waste is in contact with the skin.

Not surprisingly, it is the most vulnerable members of our society, often the elderly and immobile, that are at the greatest risk for developing pressure sores. The elderly and the disabled rely upon their caregivers and treatment providers to prevent the onset of a pressure ulcer.

When a patient is left lying or sitting in one position for long periods of time, the blood flow to the skin and tissue becomes restricted. As a result, healthy tissue slowly begins to die, resulting in a sore or wound. When contact with human waste is involved the process is accelerated.

If a pressure sore develops, a patient will have pain. In addition, if the pressure sore becomes advanced, serious medical problems can occur. Complications from pressure sores can be extremely serious and may include Infection, sepsis, osteomyelitis, and amputation. In some cases, pressure sores can result in significant complications that may be fatal.
