Not every bad outcome is the result of medical malpractice, but when a minor or routine procedure results in serious injury, it is clear that something has gone terribly wrong, which may be the result of medical malpractice.
Do not expect the medical providers to identify that medical malpractice has occurred or that it is even suspected. Most people will not be told that the serious injury or death was the result of medical malpractice. Instead, health care providers may only advise that the patient had a rare complication. Sometimes you will only learn about the condition or complication without any explanation as to why it occurred. In cases where a routine procedure results in serious injury or death, it is advisable to obtain the complete medical records and have them reviewed by an Ontario medical malpractice lawyer.
