When a car or truck crosses the centre line and collides with another vehicle head on, the results are often catastrophic. Toronto and Ontario head-on vehicle collisions are among the most dangerous car accidents. Ontario head-on car accidents often result in serious injury or death to the drivers and their passengers.
Although head-on car accident collisions make up a relatively small percentage of all car and truck accidents, these accidents account for a disproportionate number of fatal accidents. On Ontario roadways, many head-on car accidents occur because one of the involved vehicles crosses the centre line. When a vehicle strays out of their lane, head on into oncoming traffic, the accident can be sudden and at a high speed. It is often the high speed of the vehicles that results in serious injuries or fatalities. Although Ontario law prohibits texting while driving, it still happens. We have all seen people behind the wheel driving and texting on their smart phone. There is no doubt that it is tempting to read and respond to messages while driving, particularly over a long commute in Toronto and the GTA. Reminding your teen drivers that the text message can wait may not always be enough. Despite how responsible your child may be, mistakes can happen. In the case of texting while driving, the mistake can have catastrophic consequences, which should not be underestimated. As an Ontario personal injury lawyer, I have seen many devastating accidents that have resulted because of distracted driving. These days, it seems as though there is an app for just about everything. So, it is not surprising that there are apps available for disabling the text and email features on cell phones while driving. These apps have the potential to save lives, and should be considered by parents with a teen driver. Although I am sure there are many such apps available, I have listed below only a couple that I recently came across.
The above-listed apps seem promising, but you should do your own research on the various apps available. Again, I would strongly encourage anyone with a teenage driver in the household to consider a program to disable texting and email while driving. If you need any further motivation, you can check out the many youtube videos of people sharing their stories of tragedy as a result of an accident caused by texting while driving. The video below was prepared by AT&T, and it provides a compelling reminder of the dangers of texting while driving. Connect with Andrew Iacobelli on Google+
Given the volume of traffic on Ontario roadways, particularly in Toronto and the GTA, it is not surprising that rear-end car crashes account for a significant number of Ontario car accidents. Many Toronto and Ontario rear-end car accidents are the result of vehicles travelling to fast or following too closely. The increasing reliance on cell phones is often also a cause of serious rear-end car crashes, due to distracted driving. Thankfully, many Ontario rear end car accidents occur at low speeds. Many rear-end accidents result is minor injuries only. Nonetheless, even at moderate speeds there is the potential for serious injuries following a rear end collision in Toronto. In most rear-end car accidents, the driver that rear-ended the vehicle will be found to be at fault for causing the accident. Often, the police will issue a citation/ticket to the vehicle that caused the rear-end collision. Most rear end crashes can be avoided by leaving ample space ahead of your vehicle, and by driving at a speed appropriate for the conditions. It is important to drive slower and leave more room when the weather is poor. Drivers should never tail gate the vehicle ahead, as this can lead to a rear-end collision. Common Injuries From Rear End Car Accidents Rearend car accidents can result in many injuries for the occupants of the vehicle, including orthopaedic injuries, brain injuries, and soft tissue injuries. The most common injury that results is damage to the head and neck. "Whiplash" is a common name for injury to the cervical spine and discs. The brain is also susceptible to serious injury in a rear-end collision because of the sudden movements of forward and back. Ontario rear-end accidents can result in herniated discs in the neck or back, as well as concussive syndrome. Disc herniations following a rear end car crash can result in neck pain, numbness, and shooting pains down the arms.
